Let's talk about Trump's redistricting failure and blame.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump blaming others for his redistricting failure.

Trump started a nationwide redistricting battle after he pushed Texas to engage in a mid-decade redistricting fight. Republicans were warned that if they tried to gerrymander that just this once Democrats would fight fire with fire. Trump called and it turns out Democrats weren't bluffing. The battle raged across the country.

Virginia recently took the issue to the voters and voters decided in favor of redistricting to help Democrats. Republicans are, as expected, taking the issue to the courts. The final outcome of the court battle is yet to be determined. And to be honest, it isn't a slam dunk for Democrats like say California was. But as it stands, Democrats have an edge.

Trump's redistricting war, much like his trade wars, appears to be a loss. Some Republicans are blaming, rightfully blaming Trump for starting this whole mess because honestly, all it seems to have done is animate the Democratic base and give the Republicans a few potential dummymanders. House Republicans are openly admitting their mistake.

Representative Jay Obernolte of California, who admittedly seemed to be against it the whole time, said, "Virginia does not change my opinion. I thought that Texas was a mistake. I thought California was a mistake on the part of the Democrats."

Even the National Republican Congressional Committee Chair, Richard Hudson of North Carolina, seemed to try to distance himself from Trump's mess, simply saying, "It wasn't my decision."

There's a list of other Republicans voicing their opinions.

Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska provided a quote that will definitely get some mileage as people still like to claim Trump is playing 4D chess. He said, "Chess players think three to four moves ahead. It doesn't appear this happened."

Republican strategist John Feehery put it out there in a different way. "Mid decade redistricting brings bad karma to whoever calls for it. I think this year it will largely be a wash, but it is a huge distraction, and it has taken up far too much time and attention. How does this help the economy exactly?"

Meanwhile, Trump's White House is pointing the finger at Republicans at the state level or those in the House whose seats are now in jeopardy because of Trump's plan. The line from the White House seems to be that they didn't campaign hard enough.

Some of Trump's supporters want to carry on the redistricting fight. Lindsey Graham posted to social media saying, "I would encourage South Carolina's next Republican governor and the Republican legislature to seriously look at what our state's response should be to Democrats in Virginia."

Today I learned the senator from South Carolina doesn't know that South Carolina is already gerrymandered. Democrats are districted down to one out of seven seats in the state despite Democrats getting about 40% of the vote in presidential elections. You want to redraw those lines? Do it. Gerrymander it harder, Lindsey. There's no way that'll turn into a dummymander.

As it stands, state Republicans are mad at the White House. House Republicans are mad at the White House. The White House is blaming House Republicans. Republican senators clearly don't know the districts in their own state and Democrats are sitting back laughing. We'll see how this progresses, but this wasn't Trump's brightest idea.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
