Related: About this forumTrump's $10 BILLION SCHEME Collapses in Court - Legal AF
Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down what might be the most brazen grift of the Trump presidency. Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization sued the IRS and Treasury over the 2020 leak of his tax returns by a contractor already serving five years in prison.
The catch: Trump controls the agencies he's suing, oversees the Justice Department defending them, and his lawyers are now in settlement talks where any payout comes from taxpayers. A federal judge is already skeptical Judge Kathleen Williams questioned whether Trump and the agencies he runs are even "sufficiently adverse" for a real case to exist.
Brian and Shant walk through the bogus $10 billion math: the statute allows $1,000 per disclosure, but Trump's team claims 10 million people saw the leak. Brian says that's not how the statute works. The Citadel founder, whose data was leaked by the same contractor, got only a public apology. Senators Wyden and Warren called it "bald corruption." Trump himself admitted on Air Force One that it's "very interesting" to be on both sides of a lawsuit. - 05/02/2026.

(5,397 posts)1. Another gov't giveaway to Trump from Trump.

(55,201 posts)2. What I don't hear from these legal criticisms and analyses:
Trump gave massive (and seemingly permanent) tax cuts to the 1%.
The rest of us (99%) would have to pay with our hard-earned money paid for taxes the $10 Billion. (I know, I know. That's a piss in the ocean considering $10 billion paid for the first day of Iran.)

Particularly groceries - and gas!
