If hormonal treatments worked, they would be used exclusively since psychiatric drugs all have side effects, some of them horrific. Interpersonal care can modify some behavior, but if you want to quiet the voices and shut down hallucination, you need to bring out the big guns and hope the patient agrees to try them out and hope there's more improvement than added misery.
