Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - 9/19/2025

I apologize that there are so few "official" videos available, this practice by HBO appears to have started last season. If any are uploaded in the meantime, I'll definitely add them. But I wanted to share what's available before the "bootleg" videos are gone.

Jimmy Kimmel and Cancel Culture

Bill addresses ABC's 'indefinite suspension' of Jimmy Kimmel in his Real Time monologue.

New Rule: End the Blame Game

It's a fool’s errand to try and connect nuts who commit political murder to the “other side.” Because in America, life isn’t black and white – it’s 50 Shades of Cray.

Overtime with Bill Maher: Alex Wagner, Sen. Joe Manchin

Bill and his guests continue their conversation after the show.

Here's a "bootleg" version of the show which includes the entire interview with White House Border Czar Tom Homan; entire panel discussion with Senior MSNBC Political Analyst Alex Wagner; and former Democratic Senator from West Virginia Joe Manchin; Bill's "Funny Bit"; and the opening part of New Rules. It won't last long, as usual:

1. People will literally go apoplectic when they see first guest, who was not previously announced.

2. Same here, made me wonder if they kept him under wraps on purpose

I was hoping that they had a good surprise guest like Jimmy Kimmel - but it may have been if they announced Homan they were afraid they'd lose viewers.

3. Me too, I just knew it would be Kimmel, and out walks that cretin. Agree on why they didn't list him.

5. Now he would have also been a brilliant first guest

Likely Kimmel is currently in talks that he'd be foolish to discuss publicly, but Guillermo is in the same position, he's "cancelled" too, and he's also been with Jimmy for ages.

6. Sorry Bill, the NY Times isn't a mouth piece for the Democratic Party. but then again, Maher hasn't been the most

politically astute political observer in my opinion.

If they were a "mouth piece" for the Democratic party, they sure did a piss poor job of it in 2016 and 2024.

and as far as Maher's comment that Jimmy's observation about the political leanings of the killer of Kirk was wrong, "according to Maher", the only thing that comment did was dilute the point Maher thought he was making. That is that Jimmy had every right to say what he wanted whether it was accurate or not, and that wasn't even the excuse why the nazis decided to fire him. The excuse they used was that he was "insensitive". That is bullshit. He wasn't particularly insensitive. You want insensitive, that was the reason Maher got his ass fired, because after 5000 Americans were killed by terrorists, he quipped that the terrorists were brave on that "suicide mission" of theirs. That didn't even close to the level of insensitivity that Maher's comment was.

If you want to hear a good commentary filled with biting satire, exposing the exaggeration and stupidity of those trying to silence Kimmel, Colbert's comments were priceless.

7. Not the best show except for Alex

Tom Homan got to spout way too many lies.

Bill Maher seems to have truly swallowed right wing talking points
about Biden, the border, NYT a mouthpiece for the dems..

I thought or hoped he was faking his centrist views for the
sake of his brand.

I'm in it for the laughs and he delivers those so I remain a
loyal viewer.

Alex is brilliant. Miss her at MSNBC.

8. I agree completely and we know that he likes to have controversial guests

Apparently Bill thinks that he can convince them of his views, but he should know better by now. Yet I agree that as a comedian he does provide the laughs which lighten the mood and are worth tuning in for. And I was so glad to read that Alex Wagner was a guest, she was great on MSNBC and I miss her, too. Now she only makes the rare appearance.

9. Disappointing. I thought he would at least defend his friend Jimmy Kimmel.

But he didn't. He asserted that Kimmel incorrectly said Kirk's shooter was MAGA, and that is what got him canned. But that is absolutely not what Kimmel said. Kimmel said:

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2025/09/17/jimmy-kimmel-live-suspended-charlie-kirk-comments/86209499007/

That's it. That is why he was taken off the air. Can someone explain to me how what Kimmel said is "incorrect"? He did NOT say the shooter was MAGA, he said MAGA was trying to say the shooter was not MAGA. That is very different. And it is the truth.

Trump and MAGAts were saying the killer was part of the "far left" before they even knew who he was! They were obsessed with trying to establish that the shooter wasn't MAGA, and using the shooting to score political points. That is a fact. And that is what Kimmel said.

And yet Bill Maher is reinforcing the right wing narrative that his friend Jimmy Kimmel said the shooter was MAGA. Some friend Bill Maher is to Jimmy!

And then on top of that, Mahet didn't push back on Tom Homan's lies. Homan actually said that 70% of the people ICE detained have a criminal record. That is a brazen lie. It's just the opposite! 70.8% DO NOT HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD. https://tracreports.org/immigration/quickfacts/#:~:text=58%2C766,ICE%20detainees%20in%20FY%202025
But Bill Maher didn't correct him. At all.

But you know that TFG has said, likely feeling empowered by getting rid of Emmy-winner Colbert, that getting rid of Kimmel is only the start, he wants to get rid of the NBC late night comedy hosts as well. Jimmy Kimmel is a comedian, making jokes is what he does. And we know that the late night guys have made jokes about presidents since Johnny Carson. But TFG can't take it, though in his case it's certainly deserved.

12. Bill's wrong on wrong: "Jimmy's wrong, ... putting him IN ONE TEAM."

Kimmel did not put him in one team.
He said the other side tried to put him on anything but their team (i.e. anything but MAGA).

MAGA crowd was trying to characterize the assassin as anything but one of them because the guys, the 22-year-old kid in Java's family was MAGA.

Jimmy's wrong, I think, to put him in one team.
