Claire McCaskill's simple messaging for Dems

She was on with Nicolle Wallace yesterday and had a very good, imo, simple message for Dems to use and hammer on every day.

Basically, it was Trump took x B $s out of your pocket and gave it to billionaires. Simple, straightforward, true.

1. I think we tried to use that in 2024. Voters didn't listen. But I do agree simple is best because we are trying to

attract a few percent of voters who swung late to trump or decided not to vote for some reason.

and direct that would resonate with the economic populists who voted for Trump.

3. That's an old arument. I tried that with a republican. His response: "Yes, but I am going to be rich one day and I want

that money."

And they really believe that Trump will do that. And of course he won't and they'll be left in the lurch. And they'll die poor. and die fast from lack of proper health care.

6. Unfortunately that got lost in the myriad messages in 2024

What McCaskill said was Dems need to harp on a single, simple message over and over. That message should be short and simple along the lines she suggested.

Think back to the 2024 campaign, Dems tried to be all things to all voters, the messaging was all over the map, abortion rights, saving democracy, Trump voters for Harris, etc. Yes, there were some ads about tax cuts for the wealthy, but it wasn't the focus of the campaign.

Now, consider what the Rs did, every campaign ad was about immigration and scary immigrants with a little China bashing and inflation criticism on the side. Every. One. And they used it for candidates down ballot, too, wheither or not it fit the situation. That messaging got their base voters and then some to the polls.

That is the lesson Dems need to learn. One clear message centered on economic populism repeated over and over.
