Republican Senator Says War Is More Important Than Your Pocketbook

(New Republic) Republican Senator Roger Marshall wants Americans to stop complaining about gas prices because they’re necessary for “national security.”. Speaking on Newsmax’s Wake Up America Tuesday morning, Marshall was asked about the Iran war, and the Kansas politician was dismissive of its negative economic effects on the American people. “I’m sorry the gas prices are going up, but help is on its way, and your national security, yes, is even more important than your pocketbook,” Marshall said.

Iran war triggered most severe oil shock ever, the International Energy Agency says

(ABC News) The Iran war set off the "most severe oil supply shock in history," the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a new report on Tuesday, warning that high prices would slash demand for crude, the primary lifeblood of the global economy. In March, oil prices notched their largest one-month gain ever, the IEA said. The IEA -- a Paris-based group made up of 32 member nations, including the U.S. -- warned of a widespread bout of “demand destruction" in the report. Under such a scenario, high prices would make oil unaffordable for many buyers, forcing them to find alternatives or forgo energy use altogether.

U.S. sends thousands more troops to Mideast as Trump seeks to squeeze Iran

(Washington Post) The Pentagon is sending thousands of additional troops into the Middle East in the coming days, as the Trump administration attempts to pressure Iran into a deal that could end the weeks-long conflict there while considering the possibility of additional strikes or ground operations if a fragile ceasefire does not hold, U.S. officials said. The forces moving into the region include about 6,000 troops aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and several warships escorting it, said current and former officials, who like some others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss military movements.

Europe Drafts Postwar Plan to Free Up Hormuz Without U.S.

(Wall Street Journal) European countries are putting together a plan for a broad coalition of countries to help free up shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, including sending mine-clearing and other military vessels. But the plan would only come after the war and may exclude one country in particular: the U.S. French President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday the plan is for an international defensive mission that doesn’t include the “belligerent” parties, meaning the U.S., Israel and Iran. European diplomats familiar with the plan say European ships wouldn’t be under American command.

Fulton County: Swing state officials accused of secretly meeting to help Trump seize election files

(Raw Story) A watchdog group accused the Georgia State Elections Board on Tuesday of secretly working to help President Donald Trump seize voting rolls from Fulton County. "It appears that a majority of State Election Board members coordinated official business in secret and then presented it publicly in a way that suggests it reflects the views of the board itself," Hempowicz said. "That kind of conduct cuts directly against Georgia’s open meetings law and the public’s right to know how State Election Board decisions are made."

DOJ To Toss Convictions Of Proud Boys, Oath Keepers

(AP) The Justice Department on Tuesday asked a federal appeals court to throw out the seditious conspiracy convictions of Proud Boys and Oath Keepers leaders who were sentenced to prison terms for leading members of the far-right extremist groups in attacking the U.S. Capitol to keep President Donald Trump in the White House over five years ago. Trump commuted the prison sentences of several Proud Boys and Oath Keepers leaders last January in a sweeping act of clemency for all 1,500-plus defendants charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack.

'They're not getting what they voted for': Jesus meme lays bare GOP frustrations with Trump

(Politico) President Donald Trump’s weekend tirade against the pope — capped off by an AI-generated depiction of the president as Jesus — was, for some of his supporters, just too much. Their unusually severe backlash comes as many once-devout Trump supporters are having a crisis of faith. Upset over what they feel is a too timid deportation agenda, a sputtering economy and another war in the Middle East, many couldn’t stomach the affront the way they might have in the past.

Vance warns the pope should 'be careful' when talking about theology

(NBC News) Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that Pope Leo XIV should “be careful” when he talks about theology, rebuking the pontiff over his criticisms of U.S. foreign policy. Vance argued that the pope, who has said Jesus “is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs,” was failing to take into account conflicts such as World War II.

Catholic Tom Homan Tells Vatican to 'Stay Out of Immigration' Amid Trump-Pope Feud

(Mediaite) President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, backed the president in his ongoing feud with Pope Leo XIV, telling the Vatican to “stay out of immigration.” Homan was asked about Trump’s criticism of the pope on Tuesday outside the White House, and he argued that the pope’s stance on the administration’s immigration policies would likely change with a visit to the U.S. southern border.
