White House economic director downplays economic anxiety amid higher prices

(ABC News) National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett painted a rosy picture of the economy Sunday, downplaying Americans' growing pessimism about the economy amid high gas prices and rising inflation as the Iran war goes on. "Look at what's happening to real wages," Hassett told ABC News' "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl, claiming "really positive news" about the economy was being ignored. "On balance, real incomes, real wages are going up." The latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that wages did not increase at the same pace as inflation in April; wages were up 3.6% for the year and inflation was up 3.8%.

Trump responds to NYT article, says it's 'very good' administration is losing legal talent

(The Hill) President Trump on Sunday said it is “very good” that thousands of lawyers have chosen to no longer work for the administration, referring to The New York Times’s reporting on the exodus. The Times story reported that more than 10,000 lawyers working for the federal government have left since the end of 2024 to March 2026. Trump wrote on Truth Social that the outlet “wrote a story today entitled, ‘Trump Administration Sees Striking Exodus of Legal Talent,’ as though that’s a bad thing, when actually, it’s very good.”

MAGA Rep Publicly Pleads for Musicians ‘Willing’ to Play Trump Concert

(Daily Beast) In a two-minute video posted to social media on Sunday, Tim Burchett, a Republican from Tennessee’s second congressional district, addressed Trump directly as he outlined his plan to rescue the event by flying in MAGA acts. “What we ought to do is, my suggestion, get your friend and my friend John Rich, great musician, to lead it off,” Burchett began, after denouncing the acts who cancelled as “pathetic.” “He’s got some great patriotic tunes he’s written and he sings and it’s just awesome, and let him MC the dadgum thing, and have all these folks come in, there’s plenty of acts in Nashville—people that are trying to get on, get on a big stage like this—this is a world stage,” he continued.

They Voted for Trump. Here's How They Feel About High Gas Prices.

(New York Times) Since the president took America to war with Iran, gasoline prices have climbed to their highest levels in four years. Are his voters angry? More than two-thirds say they approve of his handling of the war and about six in 10 support his handling of the cost of living, according to the latest New York Times/Siena poll. But with the November midterm elections five months away, many Americans who backed Mr. Trump in 2024 are wrestling with pain at the pump and contemplating if it should weigh into their decisions in the fall. A fifth of Trump voters say the war is not worth the cost, and a third are unsure, the poll found.

(Daily Beast) President Donald Trump hit out at Pope Leo XIV on Saturday after seeing photos of the pontiff meeting with Brandon Johnson, the mayor of the pope’s hometown of Chicago. “Someone should explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago is useless, and that Iran cannot have a Nuclear Weapon! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the 79-year-old commander-in-chief wrote on Truth Social in the midst of a prolific stretch of posting. The president also posted some of the mayor’s own photos from the trip, suggesting he’s lurking on social media to monitor his political rivals.

Getting My Mind Around Trump's IRS Deal (Part 2: Lemme Tell You About Real Weaponization)

(The Rude Pundit) When the White House announced that a deal had been reached between the Internal Revenue Service and noted rapist of children and adults Donald Trump over Trump's $10 billion lawsuit against the agency for a leak of his tax returns by a now-convicted IRS contractor, the layers of fuckery were thick. I can't get my head around the idea that the president sued his own government and then came up with a deal that, for a moment, got the case dismissed and closed because everyone at the IRS and Justice Department knew that no judge or jury on earth would see this as anything other than a giant asshole being as assholish as humanly possible.
