And the article reports that Felix Saters company, Bayrock Group, LLC, borrowed the $350 million to build the project. The CIM Group, a well known LA based investment firm, A junior lender in the deal, ended up foreclosing on the property in 2014.
Vanity Fair reported that the Trump org didnt invest any capital into the project, and simply licensed the Trump name in exchange for royalties off of profits that supposedly never materialized.
The legal issues for the Trumps seem to stem from the fact that the Trumps knew Sater was a convicted felon, and was ineligible to qualify for a loan of that size.
Sater was also an FBI informant, and was complimented on his work by Loretta Lynch.
