I believe, "IT CAN HAPPEN HERE." My friend thinks I'm paranoid. [View all]

"IT," of course, refers to fascism.

My friend is a registered Democrat, but doesn't pay attention to politics. And she thinks I've gone over the edge on the dangers that are now threatening America and democracy.

What's most frustrating is that I don't know how to get through to her. She knows that Trump is a dangerous moron, but beyond that, she doesn't know, and doesn't hear me, when I try to explain the threat posed by the entire Republican Party. (She's not on DU or any other politically oriented site, but I will tell her about and show her this post.)

How do you convince someone, -- friends, -- family, -- anyone you care about, -- that our country is in serious danger of being taken over by fools, crazed freaks, and fascists? How do you get them to grasp that every freedom they have can be snatched away in a second? How do you get into their heads and point out to them that evil really exists in this world, and is now casting it's shadow across our way of life?

I don't know. But it's so frustrating to know that my friend, and many other people who call themselves Democrats, just don't/can't "get it."

It's horrible to think that they'll finally understand when/if it's too late, and they end up in a "labor camp" or worse. I truly believe that today's Republicans, if they somehow win/steal the presidency, would bring about our worst nightmares. And it's not only Trump I'm talking about here. I'm saying that if any one of today's Republican candidates wins/steals the presidency, he/she would become a dictator and a tyrant.
