On Friday, the California Faculty Association sounded the alarm on social media, reporting that 37-year-old Jonathan Anthony Caravello was “kidnapped by unidentified ICE agents” at 2:33 p.m. Thursday during a community protest at Las Posas and Laguna roads.

Witnesses at the scene said Caravello was tackled by federal agents after attempting to help a disabled bystander during the chaos, the Coyote Chronicle reported. According to multiple accounts, officers deployed tear gas into a crowd of demonstrators, with one canister landing near a protest observer in a wheelchair. Caravello reportedly rushed to assist the individual before being seized by agents.

The CFA said four masked agents forcibly removed Caravello from the protest site, placing him in an unmarked vehicle without identifying themselves, stating a reason for the arrest, or disclosing his destination. More than 24 hours later, he remained missing and without access to necessary medication.

CSU Channel Islands confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
