Trump Ukraine Announcement Built to Fail [View all]

Making sure that Ukraine can obtain Patriot Missiles from NATO is a positive sign. I just hope it's not too late. The pause caused by the Republicans in Congress last year and the slow walking by the Trump administration has made the fighting by the Ukrainians more difficult over the past 9 months. However, the 50 days before the secondary sanctions, which are really tariffs, is doomed to fail. In order to avoid those restrictions, the "Russians have to come to a peace agreement." That means that after 50 days, the "peace agreement" needs both parties to agree. Russia can manipulate that. And the 50 days gives the Russians a great deal of time to ramp up the bombing of civilians in Ukraine.
If Trump wanted to really make this gesture effective, he should have released all the allotted money that Biden got approved by Congress ($20 Billion, I think) and made that deal with NATO. In addition, rather than the 50-day bullshit threat. Trump should have announced that Russia would agree to and implement an unconditional cease fire, which Ukraine already agreed to, and they would have a 7-day deadline until the tariffs went into effect.
