We are all involved in politics. Even a thousand years ago when your king decided he wanted the land owned by his cousin, the king of another land, the peasants sent off to die in a war were "involved in politics".
Today, even if you live in a red state and the only thing that you can do is make it more difficult for Republicans to gerrymander or disenfranchise their way to power, that is still more power than most people have had for the last couple of millenia.
