2. Yes they are, I loathe them

Yes, I see them used all the time in, what I consider, the most inappropriate places.

I had a vendor I was working with who used them all the time when we were negotiating a contract.

He didn't seem a Gen Z, but he insisted on using them all the time. I eventually had to ask him to stop because I couldn't understand what his intent was with each emoji and I wasted hours going back and forth seeking clarification. It takes long enough just clarifying language and now I had another level of interpreting the emoji, hours of my life I'll never get back.

There may be a place and time for an emoji in personal chats, but not in business.

Old guy here who still puts two spaces after a period.
