(26,277 posts)39. I guess you are unfamiliar with the concept of "land rich, and cash poor." Few family farms have a lot left over for
discretionary spending and savings. Most of a family farmer's money is tied up in the value of the land (which is based on the value of the land if it is subdivided for residential use) and investments in vey expensive equipment. Maintenance is an enormous expense. They are at the mercy of weather, pests, and fluctuating prices of the produce they sell as well as the cost of fertilizer, seed, fuel - and trade policy.

I think nobody completely agrees with the way our tax money is spent.But I don't consider Medicaid to be "spending money

That is true. Land that is actively farmed is valued for taxation purposes at a much lower rate than residential land.
