Anti-vaccine advocate claims he contracted measles while visiting Texas [View all]

July 23, 2025

An anti-vaccine advocate, who routinely spreads misinformation about vaccines, said he contracted measles earlier this year while visiting a clinic in Texas, before returning home to California.

Brian Hooker, chief scientific officer with the Children's Health Defense, claimed that after visiting patients who had contracted measles in Seminole, Texas, he developed symptoms on his way home to California, first reported by The Guardian. He also claimed he used alternative treatments such as cod liver oil for his recovery.

Calling himself a "measles survivor," Hooker claimed he contracted measles 18 days after visiting a clinic in West Texas earlier this year. He said he used cod liver oil and vitamin supplements to treat himself, which he received during his visit.

"Full disclosure, 18 days after visiting Seminole, Texas, sitting in a measles clinic and being exposed to Doctor Ben with the measles, I got the measles," Hooker said in an interview with Steve Kirsch's Vaccine Safety Research Foundation.
