I am the child of a single mother.
She became a single mother about the worst time in her life,
when her children were all in adolescence.
And I hated every minute of it and fought her at every turn.
I wanted our family to be like the Partridge Family.
But looking back on sixty years, she pushed me in the right direction,
even if it wasn't what I wanted to do, I wanted to get into mischief.
She made me take the classes in school I needed.
She kept telling me, 'if you don't like it, find some aspect that's interesting.'
As I grew into adulthood, she taught me how to look at issues from all angles.
Yes, she very much made me who I am today.
Thank you, Mom.
