(11,439 posts)I'm sure "no tax on tips" pulled in some people. They took the bet on him first and worried about the details later.
Basically, the "no tax on tips" may have been that thing that pulled in 0.15% of people, and then embracing cypto may have pulled in another 0.10% of voters... and so on. His support among Black people improved in 2024. Sure, he lost Black people by a wide margin but in Pennsylvania and Michigan, any little percentage point he could have taken from Kamala Harris mattered. His support among young people increased.
The point is that he used these issues that mattered to a small amount of people to eek out the wins in close states, and things like "no tax on tips" and the inconvenience of taking your shoes off at the airport meant enough to a small group to bet on him to come out ahead by a few thousand votes.
To your point, of course, he's going to have the assholes, the bigots and the racists vote for him... but these little niche groups that cared about these niche issues may have put him over the top. The racists and the bigots probably aren't enough of them to put him over the top in Nevada.
