In reply to the discussion: Cracker Barrel (r) was always FAKE Americana anyway [View all]Bernardo de La Paz
(58,032 posts)I am old and white, but not definitely not bitter. I am often posting here against bitter doomers and "America is over" posters. I am certainly disdainful of "much of white America", which is far from all. In particular, younger people tend to have wider broader tastes (except in movies).
Soft doughy tRump with the McDonald's burgers and ketchup is a prime example of much of white American tastes, as is Cracker Barrel. You hear about many of them never having eaten lamb or just once or twice, as if it were some exotic substance. They think going to Taco Bell is being adventurous. It shows up in their fear of the "other": brown skins, ethnic culture clothing, different music, trans, drag queens, DEI, pride parades, universities, books, climate activism, change of any kind, ....
America is on the brink of a progressive inclusive future (how's that for not bitter?), but it has been set back by fearful insular maga whites and those adjacent.
