(6,516 posts)I'm so glad Dad's not here to see this. He was such a proud man... proud of his service in WWII, proud of his country in fighting the "right war" for the "right reasons" and proud of his daughter when I enlisted in the 70's. Today would be even more heartbreaking for him than it is for me.
And I also wonder if trump will outlive me. I hate that thought! But I really hate the knowing that I'll be long gone before this country sets itself back on the right track, and rebuilds it's institutions and reputation. From protests and marches to service to the country, I tried to help leave a legacy of progress throughout my life, in most ways of course, small ones... after all, I'm no mover or shaker, just an ordinary person. But I honestly wanted... and tried... to leave the world better than when I entered it. I'm so disappointed at this point. Everything we tried to do (and sometimes they were misguided, tho we meant well)... and trump just renders them to toxic waste in a matter of months.
