(38,502 posts)This whole concept of "Presidents are above the law" is a fluke that's going to disappear in a few years, the minute this country rights the ship. As soon as we get a course correction and fresh sanity in the Supreme Court.
The fact that a man as crazy as Chump could ever run for President of the USA is proof that we've been going down this road to insanity for way too long already. It has happened in other countries and innocent people have always paid a terrible price, along with the greedy & guilty who made it all happen.
I'm a Baby Boomer, born in 1951 and I blame my generation for being too lax and trusting of the governmental safeguards provided by our Constitution. We Boomers grew up in a bubble of safety, believing that the Constitution would always protect us from any kind of harm. Now we know the truth ... the Constitution only protects us as long as we're vigilant and ready to fight for it, and punish those who would rather abuse the system.
It starts with education, teaching the youngest Americans about equal rights, justice, fairness and "no one is above the law." The adults of today weren't taught those things and I place the blame squarely on us Boomers. We were the parents in the 1980s and 90s (many of us) who didn't make sure our kids were properly taught the concepts of civics, social responsibility, history, geography, etc. Now those poorly-taught kids have become the adults with no clue what their own children need to learn. It's going to be up to them to fix this mess, because our chances have been squandered. It's a sad situation and I don't have the answers.
I only know one thing: if I'd been living in Germany in the 1930s I wouldn't have been a "good German" and gone along with Adolf Hitler. But I also believe I would have felt powerless to stop him while he destroyed the country. That's what I'm seeing now in the USA, and I believe that many Boomers are also seeing it. How many Americans will stand up and fight for the Constitution while we still can? That's the big question.
