Lawrence knows that trump watches him every time Lawrence is on.
Lawrence has told this very thing to his audience.

My speculative take on why that is:
On some level trump knows that he needs to hear what his yes-men won't tell him -- he needs to hear an opinion that public polls reflect right now. trump wants to avoid negative public feedback except for what he can receive solo, without witnesses. And so he tunes in to Lawrence.

For these reasons, I don't think you have to worry that there'll be another day when trump goes after Lawrence.

I myself think that Lawrence has layers of protection for himself -- staff & production protocols, networks of govt insiders, security 24/7, and more than one guardian angel to pay for all that, another to pray for all that. Why? Because MSNBC knows he's the anchor that draws their high prime time cable viewership numbers.
