i claimed that there was so little logic and thought in republican "thinking" at that time that it would be far easier for a democrat to pretend to be a republican than for a republican to pretend to be a democrat. the latter requires facts, analysis, balancing of competing objectives and views, etc., while the former simply requires parroting back a few attack points and catch-phrases.

so she put me to the test.

she had dinner scheduled with a former boss, big-time republican in texas, and wanted to introduce her then-fiance, and thought it would be great if he thought she had found a good-old republican to marry.

correctly assuming we would never see him again, i said sure, and yeah, all i had to do was laugh at his biased jokes and throw in a few anti-kerry cracks, whatever the lies the media was pushing at the time, and dinner went great, he clearly felt right at home with a "like-minded" republican.

i defy any republican to convince me they're a democrat. i don't think they can fake it like that. it's simply too much work. life is complicated, and governing is hard. their side simply insist that their simple views are right, and they ignore reality because they can't handle the truth.
