I have several woman friends who took time off to raise their families, and then tried to resume their careers. For most it was disappointing to learn in their middle age that there was no "fast track" open to them, and many were relegated to minor roles in their companies. I've always tried to give encouragement to these "back to work" mothers, but it isn't easy.
