18. Asking God to do ANYTHING is offensive

because it reveals an attitude that one believes to have a special inside track with their God, putting them in front of the other 8 billion people on this planet and how many others in the universe?

Asking God to change events to avoid embarrassment is no different from Robert Tilton or Kenneth Copeland or Joel Osteen telling people that if they give the preacher money, God will in turn make them rich -- but you go first.

The religions I am familiar with -- including Christianity -- are all about the follower being a good person and living their life in a way that earns respect and benefits others. These religions are not about genies in the clouds that grant your every wish. When I see people acting that way in private life, it is disgusting. But when a government official starts calling upon gods to intervene in public policy, that is totally repugnant and should be unacceptable to everybody, regardless of their spiritual philosophy.
