Fetterman Crosses Aisle on Shutdown [View all]

https://share.newsbreak.com/frzoejnx
"Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Sen. Angus King (I-ME) have voted in support of a Republican short-term funding measure, breaking party lines. Their support drew backlash from Senate Democrats, who argued the bill should permanently extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits. Fetterman framed his vote as an independent effort to prevent a government shutdown, arguing that funding should be restored before policy negotiations.
Fetterman said, “Shutting our government down. That’s the wrong message for the world, for Americans as well, too.”

Fetterman stated, “It was wrong if the Republicans did these things, and I led that charge back in March, saying it’s wrong to shut us down, and we kept it open.
Fetterman added, “I said then, back in March, that, when September comes, I’m going to be the one guy that’s saying it is wrong to do this.”

Senate Democrats strongly opposed the GOP bill, demanding a permanent ACA premium tax credit extension to prevent higher costs for low- and middle-income households.
The stopgap measure lacked the 60 votes needed in the Senate, and the shutdown has led the Office of Management and Budget to begin federal employee layoffs."
