Cable and fiber optical companies about to duel where I am. [View all]

I came home a couple of weeks ago to find a door hanger on my front door. It was advertising a new fiber optic cable company that offers high speed WIFI for somewhat less than Xfinity, my old cable and now WIFI hosting company. Yeah, OK, fine, let's see how this works out.

A couple of weeks later and there are trucks on my street doing directional boring to install fiber optical cables in our townhome development. I watched as they laid the groundwork for this new service.

Now, the mailings and emails have started coming in. Sign Up Today and Save! Uh, maybe later, once it's all installed and up and running, I''ll see how reliable it is and then maybe consider switching. We've never had any competition for Internet hosting. We cut our TV cable service a while back and switched just to streaming WIFI. Saved us some money. Looks like Cable TV is a goner at this point.

So, has anyone had this kind of competition come in where you live? How has that worked out for you? Any problems? I'm looking forward to seeing what will be on offer once it's all installed and up and running. What is Comcast/Xfinity going to do to counter this? New stuff..

Gateway Fiber is the newcomer. Never heard of it.
