because a lot of companies did eat part of the tariff i n order to keep selling, and those companies will want to preserve their quarterly or even yearsly profit margin to keep investors happy.

It was either going to be a huge bite all at once or smaller bites over a longer period of time, but the entire cost of Fatso's foray into Stupid Rich Man Economics was going to be borne by thee and me.
