(7,241 posts)It's why for decades we covertly interfere with other governments that go socialist, scared to see them succeed. Because if they do, people will start embracing it and the wealthy fear that. If they are so sure of it failing, then why bother?
Hell, most don't even know that communism and socialism are two different economic systems. We know the Nordic model works and the joke:
A. They are capitalist with strong social welfare programs.
B. Then lets adopt those policies.
A. No, that's socialism.
Insult to injury, Karl Marx only gave vague ideas on socialism and communism. His main work was a critique on Capitalism which still hasn't sufficiently been countered.
China walked away from Communism and embraced the theory of Market Socialism. Vietnam followed shortly after that and I think North Korea is trying to figure out how to slowly fit into it. Some western European nations are starting to convert to it, taking the slow rout. Russia is also moving that way.
I could go on. But the top wealthiest treat Capitalism like it's some sort of religion. Society changes, values change and thus economic systems change with them. It's an evolution, not a religion. But when Mercantilism started to go out of fashion, you had people still trying to keep it as they benefit from it. Reminds me of the noble guy in charge to modernize Imperial Russia's army. All of his investments were best to keep things as is, so he reported to the Tsar nothing needed to be done. Had they modernized, they would have steamrolled over Germany in WW1.
So in short, they very wealthy elite want to keep living that way. Going equitable means they have to downsize from their twenty thousand square foot mansion.
