35. Oddly enough, one of the most popular Republican Mayors of New York was La Guardia

Who was also a member of the Bull Moose (Anti-Trust/Social Infrastructure Investments) and the Socialist party.
He was an honest to Gawd Liberal Republican, reforming the Police Department, re-establishing a merit based employment system blind to cultural or racial background, using Infrastructure and low income housing developments to keep people in the city and working after Black Friday to get the city back on its feet, and working with FDR on the New Deal.
If Mandami can follow in La Guardia's footsteps, the Wealthy in New York can still be wealthy, while living conditions and opportunities for the average person working in New York will improve.
