Why even bother with the shutdown if we were just going to cave anyway?

We could have saved people a lot of angst and hardship.

Let's face it: We collapsed. In the face of a broad, electoral statement of support, we decided to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yes, I'm glad people are getting food. Great. Especially before the holidays. But people WILL lose healthcare over this and that means people will DIE because of this. And worse, the Republicans now know they can win by imposing pain. They know they just need to keep inflicting MORE pain until we cry Uncle. And we'll get a short reprieve until they do it again. Only THIS time, the public won't believe us when we say we'll fight.

And I know most Democrats held strong. That won;t be the message the voting public take away from this.

This was our chance. We needed to stand firm HERE. We failed.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. Democratic leaders were forced into a shutdown that never truly made much sense tritsofme Sunday #10
