House speaker won’t commit to vote on Obamacare subsidies after government reopens

As part of the bipartisan deal to end the government shutdown, Democrats have secured a promise from Republican leadership in the Senate to hold a vote in the near future on extending subsidies for Obamacare that are set to expire at the end of the year. Protecting those subsidies has been their party’s primary demand throughout the shutdown.

On Monday afternoon, GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson declined to make the same pledge for his chamber.

“I do not guarantee the outcome of legislation or dates or deadlines or anything,” he said when asked by CNN’s Manu Raju whether he’d guarantee a vote in the House on Friday afternoon.
