1. Depressing. Just a note though a user could mitigate the effect of AI overview by also clicking through to the article

rather than just reading the scraped blurb. There's no fundamental difference between a link that's presented by AI overview versus the links that appear below it, the old school list of SEO-based links. So if everyone would adopt a personal policy of visiting the actual articles (which do still have links, even in AI overview), it would be helpful towards solving this (one, particular) problem. Don't solve all the insidious issues presented by this scraping bullshit, of course, but is one way to help the actual publishers/content creators who's work is being stolen
