I'm furious [View all]

Because caving to Trump at this point is the worst outcome possible. It makes Democrats look ineffectual and weak. It also reinforces the idea that Democrats were to blame all along. They held the government closed for over a month only to accomplish nothing. Why not vote to keep it open in the first place if they were going to cave anyway? The American people have gone through suffering for absolutely nothing.

Note that it is not incidental that none of the eight who voted with Trump are up for reelection in 2026. As Shaheen made clear, Schumer was behind all of this. He is an expert at the art of bending the knee to the tyrant in chief. He's honed his skills. So he sent out the eight who would feel no threat to their jobs over their collaborationist votes and in the process said fuck you to the rank and file of the party. This orchestration shows that their priority is protecting their hides, not representing the American people.

That people here are actually arguing that this was a good thing is maddening. They claim Democrats never stood a chance of accomplishing anything, despite the fact every administration in history, including Trump's first, has negotiated with the opposition party. Now Trump is emboldened. He knows he can shit all over us, and he will keep doing it. So why didn't those same people argue that Democrats needed to vote to keep the government open in the first place? Why do they suddenly now extol the virtues of this monumental fuck up? This is so much worse than if some Democrats had voted with Trump at the beginning because of all the reasons I indicated above.

We won elections just one week ago, and the collaborationists squandered all of that good will. Polling showed that the public blamed Republicans, not Democrats. Now that has changed, thanks to their voting with Trump last night. Schumer needs to go, and every one of those eight need to be primaried. Never forget!
