Any experts on group psychology here? [View all]

If there are, please tell me what it is that causes some Democrats to constantly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. First, let's rewind the tape a few days to get a true sense of what can only be described as self-destructive behavior on a mass scale.

All the talk by the end of election day last Tuesday was how the republicans seemed to be in complete disarray as a party following the clean sweep of Democratic victories. In addition, polls were indicating that the American people were growing increasingly angry over the government shutdown and were shifting blaming to Trump and the reTHugs exclusively for the impasse. As a party, we seemingly had something we hadn't had since the Orange Fool oozed his way back into the WH last November: Forward momentum.

So what happens? How does the week end?...With Trump triumphantly sticking his flabby chest out over what's arguably his greatest domestic victory yet. He never negotiated. He wouldn't compromise. He never blinked..... all while senate Democrats prove they can't keep their promises and lack the stomach to truly fight a tyrant in the name of the American people and for principles they claim are of paramount importance to them.....and that's how the media is spinning it and that's what they're running with.

So what is it causes some of us seek bad endings like this? Is it self-loathing? Some misplaced sense of guilt that kicks in whenever we sense we have an advantage? Please enlighten me. I'm obviously not hip to basic gestalt here.
