(4,293 posts)For example, how many Americans know how a boycott is supposed to work? Not enough, clearly. I see calls for "boycotts" that have no demands; they are done only to punish certain people or companies but have no end goal that advances rights or struggles.
CW is that Rosa Parks was just tired or fed up one day -- not true. That whole boycott was well designed and executed. We are encouraged to get it wrong so we will remain ineffective. There was almost zero coverage of the Gilets Jaunes protests in 2018 likely because to do so would educate Americans about what works.
John Brown is portrayed in history books as simply "crazy" because that characterization undercuts what his story really shows. It undercuts the difference that committed people can make.
David Boies warned that corporations increasingly want the rest of us to be simply "spectators to our own culture."
