(6,744 posts)41. The "ism" doesn't matter. Capitalism, Communism, Feudalism...it always ends up the same.
More and more wealth and power is concentrated into fewer and fewer hands, until eventually, almost everything is owned or controlled by a miniscule few.
Inevitably, there's a great turmoil as the downtrodden rise up against the few. It isn't always pretty, and it isn't always just. Often, it leaves the downtrodden even worse off than before, at least in the short run (witness the Reign of Terror in France or the Cultural Revolution in China).
Eventually, things more or less level out, and the cycle begins again.
Like the OP, I'm in my late sixties and have come to understand that this is the story of human civilization. I don't know the solution, but I think I see the problem.
