Because for many its simply not required. Its not a HUGE drop, but its still been a tend. And in many that still DO, once you get the job they do exactly what you mention, OJT.
Apprenticeships are on the rise too. But not enough.

My point is that many jobs requiring a degree really shouldn't. But there ARE many jobs that definitely SHOULD require a degree. But to GET that degree you have to spend money on FAR more credit hours than what you really need. You dont need to take History to be a pharmacist. You shouldve taken history in 1-12. I mentioned in an earlier post my step daughter is a nuclear pharmacist; she tole me at LEAST one and maybe two of her many years were totally a money grab. Even with academic scholarships she's got a ton of debt. Yeah, she'll make 6 figures, but its still a huge debt. Part of it is her own fault; I told her to get the prelim credits at the MUCH cheaper local college then finish elsewhere, but she HAD to pick the premier private college. Still graduated #1, but they dont pay you for that.
