HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (KKTV) - ARTICLE UPDATED AT 3:05 P.M.
At about 2 p.m. the Douglas County Sheriff's Office put out an alert tied to a shooting at a school with multiple injuries.
"This is still an active shooter situation. We still don't know whether there is still an active shooter inside," said a spokeswoman with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office just before 3 p.m. "Two suspects are in custody."
The shooting happened at the STEM school at Ridgeline and Plaza in Highlands Ranch at about 1:53 p.m. Highlands Ranch is a suburb of Denver. Authorities asked the public to avoid the area. It isn't clear if anyone is injured, but the sheriff's office said this is an "unstable situation."
The school has more than 1,850 students in kindergarten through 12th grades.
At least two juveniles were shot according to authorities.
Multiple rescue units were on scene treating the injured just before 3 p.m.
As of 2:40 p.m. deputies were still in the process of identifying and locating the shooter or shooters.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis sent out the following statement at 3:05 p.m.:
"We are making all of our public safety resources available to assist the Douglas County Sheriff's Department in their effort to secure the site and evacuate the students. We are monitoring the situation in real time. The heart of all Colorado is with the victims and their families."
