Hegseth initiates ban on transgender troops after Supreme Court ruling [View all]

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, acting swiftly on this weeks Supreme Court order permitting the Trump administration to ban transgender troops from the military, said Thursday that those service members will have between 30 and 60 days to leave voluntarily or be forced out.
This is the presidents agenda, this is what the American people voted for, Hegseth said on social media announcing his directive, which is expected to bring an abrupt end to the careers of potentially thousands of service members.
About 1,000 troops have self-identified as having a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, the Pentagon said in a statement accompanying Hegseths memo to senior military leaders, but advocates for transgender service members have said the number is higher. It was not immediately clear from the guidance Hegseth issued Thursday how the Pentagon may attempt to remove any transgender troops who have not disclosed such a diagnosis.
