Let's be clear - Paraguay, Guatemala and Belize - (theoretically) recognize Taipei as the legitimate government of all China, as does the ROC constitution. You cannot recognize both Taipei and Beijing - Taiwan is not independent.

That's what the problem is. U.S. did not formally recognize Beijing until 1979 ... 30 years after the end of the civil war. And the Taipei Government did not (formally) drop the pretense that Red China was illegitimate until 1991, 20 years after they lost their seat on the Security Council.

That's what the problem is ... the humiliation. It's not that Beijing considers Taiwan a renegade providence, it's that Taiwan is a province that said they were the government for 40+ years.
