Proper names like Alligator Alcatraz and Gulf of America are intentionally provocative and end up as a starting point for discussions which may or may not lead down a hoped-for path. In the case of Gulf of America, the prevalent result was ridicule- although I did see a Gulf of America t-shirt the other day.

Alligator Alcatraz is more problematic in that it is the official name of the facility. The intent of the name was to signal some kind of vindictive version of strength, determination, and non-wokeness in response to officially-sanctioned immigration paranoia. It is an icon that invites Americans to discard their humanity and their own constitutional rights.
