Doge has cut people who go out and actually check shelf prices to compare to last month or last year. That data isn't there with the same granularity.
Krugman had worries about this in January before inauguration day. One of his big worries was in the Treasuries market. What happens when people who buy US treasuries, considered to be the safest, or at least one of the safest, investments world wide? When investors, many foreign, stop trusting the numbers backing up the treasuries. where will they go? What will happen to the interest rates, going up and how far. What then happens to the debt payments. Up, up up.
If you hold the Inflation protected treasuries can you be sure the numbers are correct or is the administration giving low ball inflation numbers to keep costs down? How does that affect Social Security?
