5. Nearly all forests in California belong to the Federal government, not the State

So the one that broke out earlier to our north is in Los Padres National Forest, and is in parts of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, maybe 100 miles from js.

This one south of us is in parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, but I have to go back to the CalFire website to see where it’s headed into. The reservoir called Lake Piru is less than 30 miles away.

Either way, we are temporarily safe — but the days of being able to count on a 30-year respite after a big burn are long gone.
