The section describing the "Middle Passage" in the basement briefly ticked through the various countries that participated in the trade - including an oft-left out one - "Norway" - where about 50 years ago, the wreckage of a slave ship "Fredensborg" was found just outside of one of the islands along the coast of Norway.
I know it took a long time to go through it all (we took breaks) and especially nice was this exhibit dubbed the "Contemplative Court Waterfall", where there are quotes by various figures like Nelson Mandela and MLK and even musician Sam Cooke and his song "Change is going to come" arrayed near the ceiling. The exhibit is named to honor the black historian and professor John Hope Franklin (who my mom said she had as a professor when she was at Howard in the late '40s/early '50s - she then transferred back here to Philly to Temple).
