(12,392 posts)I've been using the Go Card for over 15 years - just hold it up to or on the card reader thingy and wait for the beep.
I've always carried some quarters in case my card isn't working and they push me for alternative payment, but they never have.
I recently lost my card, so I paid for a couple trips with quarters until I got a new one.
I even screwed up with the quarters the first time. First I asked where they go, I couldn't figure it out in a moment or two. Then I dumped my 4 quarters in all at once (senior rate). Nope, that doesn't work, they have to be fed in one at a time.
As for the app, I've just never warmed up to it. Seems complicated, but anyway, one buys tickets in advance with it. Then one activates a ticket when one sees the bus coming. And then show the driver the phone with the ticket displayed. I've never used it.
The Go Card is easier than that. And I cannot warm up to getting on a bus with phone in hand and all that, especially when I'm hauling $150 in groceries at the same time. I don't like taking my phone out of my pocket unless I absolutely have to. Mostly because I may drop it or misplace it. But also because of the phone snatchers
