Most of my role models growing up were progressive Jews in the SF Bay Area, many anti-war and pro-environment

Lived with a Jewish woman then married another Jewish woman. Close to two brothers for over 65 years. Their father was a UC Berkeley professor of physics who mainly worked at Lawrence Livermore Lab and worked on bomb in WWII. One brother was best man at wedding. etc. Had two Jewish den mothers in Cub Scouts. Went to a boarding school 2 years of high school that was close to 1/2 Jewish students and many faculty as well. The mother of the two brothers suggested the progressive school near their home after my parents sent me to a sucky boarding school in 8th grade. Went on scholarship. The first time my Jewish roommate's mother came to visit, we went to an anti-Vietnam War rally in San Francisco (1968). My father took me out of the school so graduated on a Reservation school (I am not NA). Later earned two degrees from Cal and worked in Fed research lab in Berkeley. Have had close to zero contact with my family of birth in last 30 years.

Almost all the Jews I knew were Reform. The two families I lived within did not like Likud and Begin and were Democratic. My own family is uneducated and tended to be bigots.

That said, I am sad and angry about the choices made by and militarism of Israel.
