instead of Trump. I am not sure I would discount this investigation as an attempt to exonerate Hegseth. It may be that the GOP senators found it convenient to go after him so they do not have to go after Trump.
Trump might let Hegseth be in trouble, after all, he is not well known for loyalty towards his minions. With Trump, loyalty is a one-way street.
