It was first introduced in the House back in February. This wasn't the nefarious hidden action it's being made out to be.

Also, there is a difference between an independent contractor and a contract worker.

If a company hires temporary workers from a temp help firm, those are contract workers, not independent contractors. They are technically employees of the temp help firm.

An independent contractor has no connection to an individual company.

It's also not clear that all of the listed consequences would apply to all affected workers. I believe all states have their own Labor Standards Acts which vary from state to state and are definitely not all consistent with this proposed bill. It's completely unclear how this bill would impact each state's own Labor Standards laws.
