12. does Borowitz ever publish "straight" news?

I would expect Andy would put some kind of note saying "this is real, folks" if indeed it's not a spoof.

Snopes has no opinion on this subject. Yet. And Borowitz is the only place I saw this mentioned. Shame, because the rest of that Signal Press piece is excellent. But this claim kinda taints the article.
