For a long time we had a Republican Rep. (the infamous John Sweeney) simply because the Democrats failed to field a viable candidate. I finally took the Clintons - and a campaign visit by former President Bill Clinton (who is a brilliant speaker!) - to finally elect a Democrat. Here's hoping that this candidate also gets national support. And I think you're right, he is likely to attract crossover votes.
